Starbucks Coffee Cups Recalled for Burn Hazard

Starbucks, in cooperation with CPSC, announced a voluntary nationwide recall of 167,000 fusion coffee mugs. The plastic handles can detach from the body of the mug when filled with hot liquids, posing a burn hazard.

23 injuries have been reported to Starbucks due to the handles detaching. Nine of the 23 people injured suffered minor burns.

This recall involves two styles of Starbucks 14-ounce Fusion Coffee Mugs. The mugs are white and have a black plastic handle, and a stainless steel base. The cups have 'Starbucks Coffee' printed on a black stamp or a brown original Starbucks logo stamp. They were made in China.

Consumers are advised to stop using the mugs immediately and to contact Starbucks for instructions on how to return the mugs for a full refund. Additionally, Starbucks is offering a free beverage as an incentive to consumers for returning the recalled mugs.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Starbucks at (800) 624-8678 anytime or visit the firm's web site at www.starbucks.com.

For more information on this subject, please visit our help center on Defective & Dangerous Products.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Chrissie Cole
